Keyes: What’s in a Name?

We decided to honor the Keyes family who are still here in Denver, Colorado by naming our International Community schools after them. Most people know of Brown v. Board of Education, with all of its progress and problems. However, hardly anyone is aware that an important US Supreme Court case came down in the early 70s relating to the failure of a local school district to integrate its schools after Brown v. Board. Wilfred Keyes became the lead Plaintiff in that case in the late 60s, and we wanted to honor his family’s goal of a truly inclusive education for his children. See the blog post here for a great recount of this important story: https://history.denverlibrary.org/colorado-biographies/rachel-noel-1918-2008
